Service Dog Program

What is Forward Paws?
Forward Paws is an initiative by Cloud-9 Canines that offers young rescued or rehomed dogs the opportunity to become trained service animals for individuals in need. These dogs, once lacking formal training, undergo a rigorous year-long (or more) process to develop into fully trained, reliable service dogs with specialized tasks and exceptional public access skills.

The mission of Cloud-9 Canines is to rescue, train, and place at least one dog every 12 to 18 months with a handler who may not have the financial means to acquire a professionally trained service dog. The only cost to the handler is for the dog’s food and veterinary care while in Cloud-9 Canines' care. All ongoing support, follow-up care, and training are provided at no additional cost to the handler.

When a dog nears the end of its training and becomes available for placement, an application will be provided in the dog's description for potential handlers within the continental United States.
Application Process
When dogs are ready to accept applications, a link will be made available in their profile below for you to complete and submit. After submitting your application, please monitor your email for a follow-up message confirming whether the dog’s skills and temperament align with your needs.

Once your application is approved, a follow-up interview will be scheduled to discuss the details of the process, your specific needs, daily routines, and other relevant factors.

Following the acceptance of your application, recommendation letters will be requested. While a doctor’s note is not mandatory, it is preferred. Additionally, during the interview, we will evaluate your living environment, in-home pets, and overall lifestyle to ensure compatibility with the dog.

Peach
Peach, a Labrador Retriever, is the newest addition to our Forward Paws program. She is currently not available for placement, but please follow us on social media for updates on when her application process will open.

Peach was rehomed from Pennsylvania and arrived at Cloud-9 Canines at 17 weeks old in excellent health. She has already shown remarkable potential to become a highly capable service dog.
​
When Peach reaches the appropriate level of training and is ready for placement, she will be seeking a handler who requires assistance with psychiatric response, medical alert/response, allergen detection, and/or non-weight-bearing mobility.
